The Record Has a Shape: What AI Is Actually Replacing

We just tagged every one of the 78 entries in the record by one thing: the type of work AI replaced. Not the company, not the industry — the actual job that stopped existing. The picture that came back is not the one the headlines sold you. The first jobs to go weren't the painters and the poets. They were the people who reconcile invoices, and they were entire products, switched off whole.
🛑 The back office (22 records — the single biggest slice)
Corporate and admin work is the largest section of the record, by a wide margin. Tellers and clerks at a Vietnamese bank. "Corporate staff" at Monday.com, Elementor, Upwork, GitLab. Back-office roles at Oracle, workforce cuts at Meta. This is the unglamorous middle of the org chart, the reconcilers and schedulers and processors, and it's shrinking faster than anything with the word "creative" in the title.
🛑 Whole products, not just people (21 records)
The second-biggest slice isn't a layoff at all. It's products that got switched off. Google Gemini Code Assist's free tier. OpenAI's own Atlas browser. DALL·E. Sora. Google Assistant. Devin. The Humane Ai Pin. A fifth of the record is things that were shipped and then retired, often by the same labs shipping their replacements. AI doesn't only cut headcount; it makes last year's product obsolete.

Design and creative: 4. Copywriting and marketing: 2. Content moderation: 1. Add them up, and the jobs the internet has worried about for three years are nine percent of the record. It's not that they're safe. It's that the routine, repeatable, back-office work went first, quietly, without a think-piece.
🛑 Vietnam starts at the bottom rung
Eight records are Vietnam-market, and six of them are the same shape: data entry, entry-level knowledge work, bank back-office, manual QA. Where the US record spreads across engineering and corporate roles, Vietnam's begins at the entry level, the first job, the foot in the door.
